The Canadian Open lost some major star power on Sunday when Wimbledon champion Jannik Sinner and 24-time major champion Novak Djokovic pulled out of the event.

They followed world No. 5 Jack Draper among top men’s players to withdraw from the tournament, which from July 27-Aug. 7 at Sobeys Stadium in Toronto.

World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz, the Wimbledon runner-up and French Open champion, and No. 3 Alexander Zverev are still in the event as are other Top 10 stars including Taylor Fritz, Lorenzo Musetti and Holger Rune, plus Canadians Denis Shapovalov and Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Sinner, Djokovic and Draper are still scheduled to play the Cincinnati Open, the last major warm-up event for the U.S. Open. Cincinnati runs Aug. 5-18 at the Lindner Family Tennis Center.

Sinner, who beat Alcaraz for his first Wimbledon title earlier this month, is the defending champion at that event. Djokovic won it three times (2023, 2020, 2018).

“We look forward to welcoming the world’s best tennis stars to compete for the Cincinnati Open title in August,” said Tournament Director Bob Moran. “We have received a lot of excitement from the players about coming back to see our transformed campus and experiencing the new player amenities. Players and fans alike will enjoy the re-imagined venue and world-class atmosphere as the sport’s best compete for the title.”
