Texas House Approves Redistricting Maps
The Texas House passed a partisan congressional map on Wednesday after weeks of legislative combat.
“Move passage.” “88 ayes and 52 nays. House Bill 4 is finally passed.” “Redistricting can be done at any point in time. And I want everybody to know this. You want transparency? Here’s the U.S. Supreme Court legal transparency. The underlying goal of this plan is straightforward: Improve Republican political performance.” “This map doesn’t just weaken minority representation. It severs the connection between communities and their elected officials. It makes it harder for parents, workers and seniors in Dallas County to know that their voices matter as much as anyone else’s.” “We are Texans. We are Texans.” “In a democracy, people choose their representatives. This bill flips that principle on its head, letting politicians in D.C. choose their voters. And that is un-American.”
