Three police officers were killed on Friday evening in Kebbi State during a battle between the police and suspected members of the Lakurawa terrorist group.
The incident occurred at Zogirma in the Bunza Local Government Area after officers intercepted the terrorists moving to attack commuters on the Zogirma/Tilli road.
The police spokesperson in the state, Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed the incident.
He said several terrorists were “neutralised” during the encounter, with others escaping into a nearby forest with injuries.
“Regrettably, three brave police officers lost their lives during the encounter,” he said.
He said the terrorists fled before a reinforcement from the Zogirma police division, backed by the No 36 Police Mobile Force Squadron, Birnin Kebbi arrived at the battle ground.

Kebbi Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, lauded the “resilience, bravery and sacrifice” of the fallen officers, offering prayers for their souls.
Mr Sani urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the state’s populace.
