Listen, it’s Amazon Prime Day—days, plural, technically—and GQ has an entire team spending literally 14-hour days sifting through garbage deals to find the best ones in menswear, tech, fitness gear, and more. I’m watching them go nuts on Slack right now. But me? I’m here to tell you this: none of it matters unless you also get a banana hook.
The hook does one thing, and one thing only: keeps your bananas dangling in mid-air so that they don’t get mushy. And it’s amazing at that job.

Bananas are wonderful. Filled with potassium, inexpensive, great in a smoothie or on some yogurt or by themselves midday when you’re in procrastination snack mode but don’t want to house an entire bag of Doritos.
Bananas are also frail. Like egos and redheads, they bruise easily. If you manage to get a bunch home without looking like they were on the losing end of a UFC match, the clock starts ticking at warp speed. That’s when people make the biggest mistake: they (you?) put bananas in some kind of bowl, or on a counter, with other fruit.

Then science starts to happen: ethylene gas—a plant hormone produced by fruits like bananas, tomatoes, and apples as they ripen—gets trapped against the bananas’ skin. The bananas ripen faster than you eat them. Adios, Chiquita.
BUT if you hang your bananas, that ethylene gas wafts off into the kitchen, and your bananas last for longer. Days longer, in my experience. Long enough to actually eat the bananas, versus getting excited about eating a banana, realizing they’re all mushy even though you bought them maybe 36 hours ago?, then grappling with whether to toss them (wasteful) or freeze them for banana bread (you’ve never made banana bread, no one has).
The banana hook I have is plastic and, ironically, not on sale, despite damn near every banana hook on Amazon being discounted for Prime Day. But look, tons more are!

Yes, you must be an Amazon Prime member to access Prime Day’s exclusive deals. If you’re not yet a member, you can sign up for a 30-day trial.
How long do the deals last?
For as long as we can remember, Prime Day has been a two-day event. Not this year. In 2025, you’ll have four full days to shop for deals. The deals will begin on July 8 and be live through July 11.
Do Prime Day deals change each day?
Yep, Prime Day deals definitely change each day, and sometimes even by the hour. Amazon rotates in new discounts each day across all categories (tech, clothing, home, you name it), so what’s here today might be gone tomorrow. Some deals only last 24 hours, and others sell out with a quickness. If you see something you like, it’s probably smart to grab it before it’s gone.
Do other retailers participate in Prime Day?
While there is only one store participating in Amazon Prime Day (uh, Amazon), there are plenty of other retailers that ride off Prime Day’s coattails.
