Environmental stakeholders and advocates, under the auspices of Climalearnation and Women in Mining Nigeria, have contributed their voices to the challenges facing the environment and the earth.

The stakeholders and advocates, through a recent virtual event themed ‘Our power our planet’ and held in commemoration of the 2025 Global Earth Day Summit, amplified the message of environmental action and sustainability that Earth Day represents.

According to the organisers, the essence of the event was to drive a greener future through a collaborative platform for diverse professionals to discuss innovative and sustainable solutions to environmental action and earth challenges that fit the global focus of Earth Day.

The convener of Climalearnation, Ruth Chigbo, stated that the event was a testament to their collective responsibility and to the power each person holds to shape a sustainable future.

She added that they aimed to inspire, empower, and encourage everyone to actively contribute to a healthier, more resilient earth, ensuring a legacy for generations to come.

“At Climalearnation, we believe that the earth is more than just a planet ─ it is our shared home, a sentiment at the very heart of our ‘Our Power Our Planet’ theme,” she said.

The guest speaker, Peter Ayeni, shared his ideas and vision for a sustainable future, especially as it concerns environmental sustainability through innovation and technology.

Ichor Joshua focused his presentation on environmental responsibility that will encourage actions towards achieving clean drinking water access across Sub-Saharan Africa. On the other hand, Dr Janet Adeyemi spoke on the need to continuously advocate for climate action.

Paper presenters Igede Felix, Areola Joshua, and Abdurrahmon Akesire contributed their expertise to the discussion. Brandon Reynolds, Praneetha Monipi, Chinaza Arukwe-Moses, Ikani Isreal, and Victor Chukwuemezie shared their ideas and projects on the theme of the event.

Singer Tolulope Olatunji, through her performance, reminded the attendees of the power of creativity in inspiring environmental consciousness.

The expertise of the jury members, Isah Buny Amin, Love Olowu, Chris Nwachukwu, and Adebayo Olaniyi, moderated by Joy Kalu-Johnson, contributed significantly to the discus.

The organisers of the event stressed that tangible steps must be taken by all inhabitants of the earth to contribute to a healthier planet, adding that all efforts to this end must translate into concrete actions that would ensure a sustainable future for all.

At the event, prizes were given to young people tackling sustainability challenges. Theophilus Venn emerged first position, Edesiri Ovuodeforen came second, and John Tosin Adekunle came third. A quiz featuring Akesire Abdurrahmon was held.
